Find A Golf Group To Play With

There are several golf groups you can play with at Decatur Country Club.  Each group has a slightly different interest and skill level among its regular players.   The current largest groups are described below.   Please check with the Pro Shop for individual tee times and to learn of other groups that you could join for a round of golf.  There is a golf group for everyone who wants one at Decatur Country Club.

The Weenies are probably the most inclusive group for new golfers and have a wide range of ages, talents, and wallets.  They will let anyone play with their group.  Just show up and play.  If you do not have a FairGolfMatch.Com rating, you can use an estimated rating based on your handicap or based on a golfer with similar golfing skills to join in the matches.

The price of entertainment for a round of golf with this group rarely exceeds $20.00 unless there are a lot of groups playing and someone plays really poorly.   They play primarily for fun, but are still very competitive.  Wear a thick skin when you play.  Nobody is immune from the comments of the group members.

Normal tee times for the weenies start at 9:30 on Saturday and 1:00 on Sunday.   If you want to play with the group or be added to their e-mail list send an e-mail to John Peters at  johnp@fairgolfmatch.com.

The Big Group probably has the highest concentration of low handicap golfers at Decatur Country Club, although they also have some golfers in the 16-18 handicap range.    Because they play for higher stakes than other groups, you will probably need an established FairGolfMatch.Com rating, or you will need someone to attest to your stated golfing ability before you play with them.

The price of entertainment with the B ig Group sometimes gets into the$100 - $200 range if they have a lot of golfers and a lot of side wagers.  It is definitely a competitive group.

Normal tee times for the Big Group start at 12:00on Saturday and Sunday during the summer months.  They also play at 12:30 on Wednesdays, and a smaller group of them often play at 2:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  For more information e-mail Wes Lavender at weslavender@bellsouth.net.

The Belcher-Sanders Group consists primarily of competitive, younger golfers (25 - 45) with a penchant for the occasional beer or spirit during a round.  Handicaps range from low to high, divided evenly acroos the group.

The price of entertainment with this group can approach $100 on a good (or bad) day.  They are very competitive, but fights rarely break out while they are settling their wagers.

The Belcher-Sanders Group normally plays at 9:00 on Saturday and 1:30 on Saturday.  For more information e-mail Scott Belcher at sbelcher2203@charter.net.

The Gil Crane Group is a group of more mature golfers, many of whom have played together for eons.  They play strictly to have fun and get exercise, and sometimes the rules are relaxed slightly to avoid stress and strain while on the course.   The have a maximum limit on the cost of entertainment of $2.00, although several of them could afford at least twice that much.

The Crane Group normally plays at 10:00 on Saturday and 1:30 on Sunday.  They also play almost every morning during the week if the sun is shining.  For more information inquire at the pro shop or speak to anyone in the group.
